Degrees Offered
School of Arts and Sciences - Students in this school may pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in such disciplines as accounting, business, computers engineering, education, fire science, journalism, human services, management, marketing, counseling, social science, psychology, general studies, fine and theater arts, music and natural sciences. Since qualifying adults are expected to "finish up" work on a particular degree, as opposed to "just starting" one, few students apply for degrees in areas of concentration or fields not shown on official transcripts from accredited, approved, or legally established institutions at home or abroad. In a limited number of cases, it is reasonable that one could provide "experience justification" for requesting a certain major. No qualified applicant will be rejected, provided faculty with qualifications are available to the school during the period which would parallel the enrollment period of the accepted student.

School of Religious Studies Many people recognize a crisis in the moral and religious climate in our country and in the world. Violence and lawlessness seem the order of the day, disease and despair appear out of control, and 'hope for the future' has been transferred, for too many people, to a chance at "winning a lottery." In its response, now offers accepted students options to major in such areas as: Church Administration, Religious Education, Pastoral Counseling, Metaphysics and History, Religious Art and Music, Dogma and Polity, Comparative Religion, and other such subjects. All courses are non-denominational and non-sectarian.
School of Law and Legal Studies This school offers a correspondence, non-bar, 3-year law school curriculum, leading to either the LL.B. or the J.D. degree, and employs the "case book method" of instruction (the briefing of cases, but no exams as such). City University Los Angeles offers a paralegal bachelor degree program to students engaged in the practice of law. The 3-year non-bar program [which can be completed within 27 months of intense correspondence study] is for those who want a knowledge of the law, but do not care to meet any State Bar requirements for becoming a licensed attorney. Law school graduates and those who are already attorneys might pursue professional graduate studies at the Master in Laws (L.L.M.) and S.J.D. levels. An "academic Juris Doctor (J.D.) program," requiring a total of 81 quarter units is available to law school graduates, holders of law degrees from foreign institutions, and those who are practicing lawyers without either a degree or a J.D. degree. Persons who might qualify for this "academic, doctoral level program" should contact the Director of Admissions. The Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, sometimes abbreviated, "J.D.," is offered through the school of law and as an academic degree, at the postgraduate level, and students are required to complete a regular doctoral program, including a dissertation acceptable to faculty in form and content, based on an acceptable proposal. This program, like other academic programs must meet the minimum 81 credits requirement.

The Graduate School of Life, Health, and Environmental Sciences - This school encourages scientific study in a few disciplines which enhance human experience and wellness, and which restore and protect the environment. Programs in this school include... life science, natural hygiene, health care administration, nutritional science, electromedical sciences, environmental studies and nursing (for those with an R.N. license already). Generally speaking, qualifying adults who have completed a substantial amount of academic study and have amassed considerable prior credits, but who do not have appropriate degrees for reasons related more to inopportuneness than to lack of merit. For this reason, such deserving adults are provided what the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education in 1970, described as "...less time and more options..." to finish up work on an appropriate degree through CULA. In this school, graduate students focus upon programs in nutrition, life science, natural hygiene, environmental studies, public health, 'new age' and wellness-oriented studies. Graduate students are encouraged to do research and hypothesis testing toward the end that truth about environmental and personal health might become more commonly known.
