DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN PHYSICAL THERAPY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
|
|
A research-oriented program for professional physical therapists, licensees, and others who meet Degree Committee Standards.
|
|
|
|
REQUIREMENTS:
|
- Three years fulltime postgraduate study or the equivalent 54 semester/81 quarter credits.
- A dissertation based upon original research, orally defended before the Doctoral Committee as a whole.
- An Annotated Bibliography and a Critical Analysis of a curent problem, both in the field of concentration.
- 25%-50% concentration from core curriculum
- Minimum of 36 quarter credits through this program.

PREREQUISITES:
|
|
- A master degree in this or a related field; a recognized license in the field; certified professional membership in the field; or at least 75% of degree requirements completed, including any laboratory, practicum, clinical requirements, or licensure qualifications.
- Articulation of an original topic of research, including acceptable methodology, and related to the specific degree title.
- An awareness of the objectives of external studies; the ability to achieve personal objectives; and a propensity for study by distance learning.

- Course Objectives: Student will be doing advanced work in field of concentration.
- Course Description: A study of the changes in physiologic parameters with exercise. Includes muscle physiology and cardiovascular and respiratory responses to work. Basic exercise programs, such as isokinetic and progressive resistive exercises are explored. Two lecture hours and two laboratory hours.

- Course Objectives: Student will learn by doing advanced work in field of concentration.
- Course Description: Emphasis in this course will be on the analysis of movement. Included will be the analysis of advanced exercise patterns, locomotion and the evaluation of normal and abnormal gait patterns. The anatomic, biomechanic and neurophysiologic principles necessary to understand movement and movement analysis are presented.

- Course Description: Appropriate learning experiences are provided so that the students can learn the necessary electrophysiology and electrophysis as it applies to the electrotherapeutic techniques of galvanism, thereapeutic electrical stimulation, low voltage electrical testing, biofeedback techniques, nerve conduction velocities and electromygraphy.
