DOCTOR OF SCIENCE IN SPORTS PHYSICAL THERAPY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
|
|
A doctoral level program designed as an accommodation to Europeans and others preferring the D.Sc. over the Ph.D.
|
|
|
|
REQUIREMENTS:
|
- Three years full-time or the equivalent of 54 semester or 81 quarter credits.
- A dissertation based upon original research.
- An Annotated Bibliography and a Critical Analysis of a current problem, both in the field of concentration
- 25%-50% from the core curriculum
|
|
PREREQUISITES:
|
|
- A master degree in this or a related field; a recognized license in the field; certified professional membership in the field; or at least 75% of degree requirements completed laboratory, practicum, clinical requirements, or any licensure qualifications
- Articulation of an original topic of research, including acceptable methodology, and related to the specific degree title
- An awareness of the objectives of external studies; the ability to achieve personal objectives; and a propensity for study by distance education.

- Course Description: A problem-solving approach to treating patients with amputation or spinal cord injury. Topics include etiology, pathology, evaluation and treatment during the acute and rehabilitation phase of care.

- Course Objectives: Student will learn by doing practical work in field of concentration.
- Course Description: Emphasis in this course will be on the analysis of movement. Included will be the analysis of advanced exercise patterns, locomotion and the evaluation of normal gait patterns. The anatomic, biomechanic and neurophysiologic principles necessary to understand movement and movement analysis are presented.

- Course Description: Advanced principles underlying human motion. Emphasis is placed on developing the ability to analyze human motion and learning to select appropriate exercise to improve human motor performance.

- Course Objectives: Student will learn by doing work in field of concentration.
- Course Description: A study of the changes in physiologic parameters with exercise. Includes muscle physiology and cardiovascular and respiratory responses to work. Basic exercise programs such as isokinetic and progressive resistive exercises are explored. Two lecture hours and two laboratory hours.

- Course Description: Appropriate learning experiences are provided so that the students can learn the necessary electrophysiology and electrophysis as it applies to the electrotherapeutic techniques of galvanism, therapeutic electrical stimulation, low voltage electrical testing, biofeedback techniques, nerve conduction velocities and electromyography.
